Peer Education Program
What is Peer Education?
Peer
|
is a co-teaching relationship between people who are in some way equals. That equality can be defined by age, gender, geography, income, racial or ethnic group, culture, background, and disability. In our cross-cultural community, peers are fellow international students who have shared experience of study abroad, and who peer desire to help and learn from one another. We believe peer relate to and trust others in their opportunities and challenges overseas better than professionals whose experience might be entirely different from theirs. Peer educators and learners exchange knowledge, wisdom, skills, and resources to facilitate emotional support and mutual growth. Peer education also provides agency of empowerment through the possibility that a peer learner would also become an educator. |
MAZE Peer Education is designed to mainly serve Chinese speaking international students in US colleges by educating, promoting, and inspiring Chinese international students to live healthy lives in the US. Through education, mentorship and outreach on various college student health topics, peer educators equip their learners to practice healthy living, achieve success in college, and help many others like them. |
|
Having first-hand experience of study-abroad challenges doesn't necessarily mean that one can teach how to overcome those obstacles well. Peer educators will receive training before they start, and support and supervision while they're working with peer learners.
